One of the biggest questions we get from clients is about what happens after we install – will we help them put their things away neatly and how will they maintain the order we’ve helped them establish.

Short answer, no.  That’s what our friends in the professional organizing industry are for and we are happy to refer.  But while maintaining the peace we’ve helped bestow on your home may seem like magic (or that it will take a hidden team of magical cleaning fairies), the truth is much simpler: spotless homes are the result of consistent daily habits.

The good news? You don’t need hours of free time or a deep clean every day to maintain a tidy space. These 9 small-but-mighty tasks take just a few minutes but create a huge impact over time.  We’re happy to share them with you here:

1. Take Off Your Shoes

This one small habit can drastically reduce how much dirt and grime makes its way into your home. Shoes carry bacteria, allergens, and debris from the outside world. By removing them at the door, you instantly cut down on cleaning time.

Quick Tip: Use two doormats—one outside and one inside—to trap dust and create a shoe-free transition zone. For everyday shoes to slip off an on for quick ins and outs, keep a shoe basket near the door to stash them in.

2. Make the Bed

It might feel unnecessary—especially if you’re the only one who sees it—but making the bed sets the tone for a clean, organized day. It visually anchors your room and can make even a messy space feel more in control.  It’s a scientifically proven method of highly successful people,  Even former Navy SEAL commander Admiral William McRaven named his book, “Make Your Bed,” sharing 10 life lessons from basic training that apply to everyday life, making your bed being number one.

Quick Tip: To make the bed faster, lift up the corners of the bed to tuck in your sheets and blankets with ease.

3. Wipe Down Kitchen Counters

Every. Single. Day. Whether it’s crumbs, cooking splatter, or a coffee ring, the kitchen countertop is a magnet for mess. Wiping it down at the end of the day (or after each meal) keeps your kitchen looking—and feeling—fresh.

Quick Tip: Use a microfiber cloth and all-purpose spray, or keep disinfectant wipes within easy reach for quick touch-ups. Also, clean as you go to avoid a pile-up!

4. Clean As You Cook

As we just mentioned… No one likes facing a sink full of dishes after dinner. Cleaning while you cook helps you avoid the post-meal chaos. Wash prep bowls, wipe surfaces, and put utensils in the dishwasher as you go.

Bonus: It also makes cooking feel less stressful and more enjoyable.

5. Wipe Down the Shower

Water spots, soap scum, and mildew don’t stand a chance if you take 30 seconds to wipe down your shower daily. This habit prevents long-term buildup and keeps your bathroom looking spa-level clean.

Quick Tip: Keep a small squeegee or microfiber cloth in the shower so you can do a quick swipe before stepping out.  Having a fan in the bathroom to run after showers also helps moisture evaporate and decrease the occurrence of mold and mildew.

6. Swiffer Before Bed

It may sound excessive, but a quick once-over with a dry Swiffer each night keeps dust and pet hair under control—especially if you have hardwood or tile floors. It’s a small task with major payoff.

Quick Tip: Keep your Swiffer somewhere visible so you’re more likely to remember (and use it).

7. Put Clothes Away

Nothing clutters a space faster than a stray jacket on a chair or a pile of “worn-but-not-dirty” clothes on the bed. Spotless homes stay that way because their owners commit to finishing the job—laundry is folded and put away, not just washed.

Quick Tip: Make laundry baskets easy to access and stick to a folding routine right after drying to avoid excess wrinkles!

8. Wipe Mirrors and Sinks

Water spots, toothpaste splatters, and hair strands can quickly make a bathroom feel grimy. A quick daily wipe of your mirror and sink keeps it sparkling and prevents buildup.

Quick Tip: Store a microfiber towel in your bathroom and pair it with a small spray bottle of glass cleaner or even just water and vinegar.  We keep one under each bathroom sink so it’s always handy.

9. Follow the Two-Minute Rule

This is the golden rule of tidy homes: if a task takes less than two minutes, do it right now. Whether it’s putting away your shoes, rinsing a dish, or folding a towel—these micro-habits prevent messes from piling up.

Quick Tip: Say this to yourself: “It’ll take less time to do it now than it will to come back to it later.” It’s always true.

Final Thought: Consistency Over Perfection

The secret to a spotless home isn’t deep-cleaning marathons—it’s doing a little bit every day. These 9 habits are simple, fast, and make a major difference when done consistently. Whether you adopt all of them or just start with one, building these routines will help you create a space that feels calm, clean, and effortlessly lived in.

So, which one will you start with today?
